Uglies by: Scott Westerfeld

Tally Youngblood is a very adventurous disobedient 15 year old "ugly". Stuck in a world where the government has finally reached ultimate control. In a severely Communistic society they have created a way for "equality" by surgically altering everyone at the age of 16 to become "pretty". This book is about a beautiful discovery. Westerfeld does an astounding job of painting incredible pictures as Tally ventures into the "real" world she discovers what real beauty is, her first sunset and seeing the city lights from the hillside. It honestly speaks so true about true beauty. Unfortunately her beautiful new understanding comes at a terrible cost. She learns the ugly truth about what her pretty world is all about and who is really behind it. Now she is faced with the terrible decision of either turning her new found beautiful world to disaster or be faced with staying "ugly" forever. "Uglies" honestly was an incredible book its not at all what I was expecting when my sister in law first handed it to me, but I was very happily surprised. :)

  1. Erik and I both completely inhaled all the books in this series. Definitely some time well spent!
